Here are some popular pool and spa combinations you can use for inspiration for your own backyard oasis.

RAISED SPAS

ATTACHES TO YOUR POOL

A raised spa attached to your pool gives the overall design a little height and dimension. The spa can be raised anywhere from 6 inches to 18 inches above the pool and it can become the focal point of the entire pool design. Not only does it give your pool an upgrade but it can also be the center for socializing when you host a poolside party. A raised spa is also a great way to highlight your pool’s decorative coping, such as a concrete design or a mosaic. The perimeter of the spa can also be lined with stones or foliage to make the environment more natural.

Apart from enhancing the overall design, a raised spa also allows for more custom water features, such as spillways and overflow edges. The spillway feature is water falling from your spa to the pool below in sheer cascades, which not only looks modern and contemporary, but the sound of falling water creates an environment of tranquility. Overflow edges, on the other hand, are placed lower than the actual water line for the spa, which gives the illusion that water is continuously flowing down the sides of spa. When paired with a beautiful tile finish, the water appears to be spilling into nothingness.

INTEGRATED SPAS

LOCATED WITH-IN YOUR POOL

An integrated spa is where the spa is located inside the perimeter of the pool and is not separated, like a raised spa. However, the spa’s warm and swirling water remains separate from the cool water of the pool by a dam wall. Pool owners have the choice of whatever shape and size they like for their integrated spa, as long as it fits within their existing swimming pool. The spa has to be the right size so the swimming pool remains swimmable.

You can phase out the pool’s design by choosing decorated features to keep the spa the focal point of your pool. On the other hand, if you want your pool to stand out as well, you can experiment with a contrasting liner or something that highlights the shape and design. When it comes to customizing your pool and spa, the choices are endless.

DETACHED SPAS

DETACHED FROM THE POOL

Some people who like to utilize their backyard space prefer to have a spa that is detached from their swimming pool. This option is equally possible if it better meets your lifestyle needs. Keeping your pool and spa apart is also great to create a bigger space for entertainment because now there are multiple areas for socializing.

A detached spa is also great for creating a more peaceful and tranquil environment around your spa. Simply detaching it a few feet away can keep your spa free of high traffic pool area. Your backyard oasis will become better than ever.
